As a sort of anniversary, I’d like to point out that this as my 100th blog post on this site.  I started the blog on September 24th in 2005.  So, nearly four years later (and a whole year off), I am at the magical number of 100.  Not impressive numbers, but at least I should get marks for endurance.

This isn’t my first attempt at blogging.  I tried to do something with my brother way-back-when which I just didn’t have the time or patience to maintain, so after a couple of years, it got turned over to a friend of mine who I don’t believe still does anything with it anymore.  There was another time, somewhat over lapping when I was blogging under some other banner, and the same again, where I glommed onto a website I set up and tried again (my first experiment with the early WordPress engine).  Lack of patience to do any meaningful maintenance again was its undoing.

And I think that’s what it is…the care and feeding of a blog that can be so off putting.  I spend a good deal of the day on a computer and spending time learning all of the various web languages to maintain the backend of a website is daunting at the end of the day when all you want to do with a computer is hop on and play your favorite game.  I never quite got into Blogger, which as a free service has come a long way from it’s humble roots, especially now that the toolset is easier and more manageable.

However, I like having the creative content control over a site which is why I decided I’d get Laughing Squid to host my page and WordPress to handle the blog heavy lifting.  Still, a fair amount of work here.  Clean up the spam, update the website on the backend and keep it interesting on the front.  WordPress kept getting better though and now a lot of the mundane work that was a pain to do has a push-button mojo to it, much like the visions of the future promised in those ads from the 50′s.

I’m just proud that I got this far.  The trick now is to carry this bounce of momentum and let it ride, keep this place fun and hopefully around for another hundred posts (hopefully many more) and around for many more years.
