Not much going on today. I have some things that I’m trying to get ready at home (cleaning, cooking, boring stuff) which has eaten a good chunk of my day already. Picture this, I just got my latte for the day. Clearly, my entire schedule is off.
In addition to this, I’m not entirely sure how much I’ll post in the next few days as we’ll be visiting D.C. this weekend and I’m staying on for a few days to catch up with some friends of mine there. I’ll have my laptop on me, but I don’t have a clue of what my schedule is going to look like. All I know for sure is that Saturday morning I will be enjoying a unbelievably good pastry and that night is party time for Annie, the Awesome.
But I can’t just leave without something I think is cool…so here’s a video of one of my favorite people to listen: Andrew Bird performing his song Why? live at the Guthrie. Great version of this, but not my favorite. I saw him play this song at the 9:30 Club in D.C. and the audience was so much more into it, it took on a more playful swagger. You could see the smile on the Andrew Bird’s face and feel that same smile in the crowd. The Guthrie, while undeniably a fine space, actually separates the audience from the artist because ya gotta sit down, which divides the audience into individuals and the group “feel” just isn’t as strong.
If you get a chance to see Andrew Bird live, do it! I’ve seen him three times now and have really enjoyed his shows. And see him at a venue like the 9:30 Club or the Black Cat in Seattle…you’ll be glad you did.
